Choice comes down to surface type, open-skate hours versus league bookings, and whether rentals or safety gear are included in admission. Ice arenas frequently pivot between public sessions, youth hockey, and figure skating, while roller rinks often host themed nights and private parties. Checking a map won't tell you the current ice resurfacing schedule, floor material, or session age limits.

Good to know
Are skate rentals included with public admission?
Rentals are usually a separate add-on fee, typically ranging from $3 to $7 on top of general admission. Some venues allow you to bring your own inline, quad, or ice skates, provided they pass a quick safety inspection by staff.
Do rinks offer beginner aids or skate trainers?
Many family-focused rinks provide plastic skate trainers or balance frames for young children and beginners, though availability is often first-come, first-served. A few facilities charge a small rental fee for these frames during busy public sessions.
Can I host a private party or group event at a skating rink?
Most roller and ice rinks offer group rates or private venue rentals outside of standard public hours. Packages generally include skate rentals, dedicated party space, and designated floor or ice time.
